Child Support
When the parents of a child no longer live together, the non-custodial parent will be required to pay a portion of their income to the custodial parent for support of that child. Illinois now uses an “Income Share” approach to setting the amount of child support, which considers the income of both parents when determining the amount of child support that will be paid. However, the amount of income is often disputed, especially where the parent paying support is self-employed, works overtime, earns commissions or is seasonably employed.

Spousal Support (Maintenance)

• The length of the marriage
• The standard of living established during the marriage
• The present and future earning capacity of each party
• The age and health of each spouse

Support Modifications
